What is a Garden Doula?

The Greek word doula was used for centuries to describe the person who provided knowledge, & emotional & spiritual support to new parents raising children.

The Garden Doula LLC has a similar role with gardeners as they "raise" their gardens.  We want to support you in co-creating the garden that you desire.   

We do this through individual consultations at your home & classes teaching this approach to gardening at The Garden Doula's Teaching Garden in Vancouver, WA, USA.  Also, The Garden Doula LLC sponsors potlucks locally & CoCreativeGardening.org with the intention to connect gardeners accross the planet who are passionate about gardening with nature...from the heart. 

Through the deep relationship with Nature, The Garden Doula has also created essential oil blends using the aromatic treasures of plants.  You'll soon find these "gifts of nature's presence" for pets, plants & people at PlanetEssences.com.

The Garden Doula teaches gardeners to care for the plants and other elements of the yard & garden.  Most people want to care for their own yards, but just need help getting started. 

Create a vibrant healthy outdoor space with our help by:

• learning about the nature of plants [are they dead or are they dormant?!] & soil,
• clarifying your intention for what you want in a garden,
• discovering the impact that your emotions have on the garden and the garden has on your emotions, &
• "tuning in" for insight on how to proceed in the space.

With our support, you will feel more confident with pruning that first plant or lifting that first spade of dirt. We dontprovide the physical maintenance for your yard, but well refer you to other professionals for engineering, sprinkler systems, etc. By helping you understand your gardens needs, you can see if you need help from a gardening service.

The connection between the homeowner & their garden is the primary relationship.  Our intention is always for you to increase your connection to spirit through the gardening experience.

Content of The Consultation 

1.When The Garden Doula visits, we will look at the current conditions of moisture, light and soil, & the energetic character of the space.  

2. We will help you visualize revisions to the garden layout, including ideas for hardscapes and plants to consider adding.  Using the approach of co-creating with nature, we will help you make decisions that match your intention for a garden. 

3. We will teach you to make the right choices at the garden center whether we join you or you go solo.

4. We will facilitate your independent connection with the spirit of your garden, mindful that the best way to garden is in partnership with nature.

5. Questions that arise during a consultation are an important part of the process.  The Garden Doula is happy to facilitate this part of the path.

Do you wonder if a plant is dead or dormant, a weed or a gem?  If you are new to a garden, new to gardening in general, or new to working co-creatively with nature, The Garden Doula can help!  The relationship between homeowner & garden requires time to get to know each other.  With our support you & the garden will get through that first year by learning to understand each others "nature".  Gardening can be simple!
